Rehabilitative: To restore to good health or useful life, through therapy and education; post injury, surgery, & birth defects. “Re-hab” sessions usually require additional props for enhanced proprioception of certain joints, and more time stretching the body to unwind and balance skeletal mal-alignment before bigger movement begins. We work to change tension and non-ideal muscle patterns so range of motion can increase safely and effectively.
Fitness: The state or condition of being physically sound and healthy, especially as the result of exercise and proper nutrition. For a “fitness” session she will design a flow of classic & contemporary exercises to emphasize how your Core plays a role in these exercise methods movements.
Lifelong studies in dance, voice and acting, as well as sessions with leading healing-arts specialists, enhance her somatic approach to the methods. Candace teaches clients anatomy, bio-mechanics, and movement training to increase body awareness.
Candace practices healthy maintenance by receiving sessions in Pilates, GYROTONIC®, Rolfing, Feldenkrais, Alexander, Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Nutrition, Acupuncture & Yoga.
PILATES
The Pilates Method, originally called “Contrology” by creator Joseph H. Pilates (German born, 1883 -1967), encouraged the use of the mind to control muscles. Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and of alignment of the spine, and strengthens the deep spinal and abdominal muscles to help keep the body balanced and provide longterm support for the spine. The linear movement is performed on a mat, or apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, and the Barrel.
GYROTONIC®
Juliu Horvath created GYROTONIC® equipment and exercises after many years of intense study and self-exploration. This unique method offers the same benefits also acquired by practicing yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi, but is not directly derived from these exercise modalities. The work decompresses the spine, improves circulation, opens the joints, stretches nerves, stengthens the core, legs, shoulders & arms, and increases coordination.
